Cook Applauds Charleroi Elementary for Blue Ribbon Achievement

September 25, 2025

HARRISBURG – Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) commended the Charleroi Area Elementary Center for being selected as a Pennsylvania Blue Ribbon School, which recognizes schools for their overall academic performance and/or the progress made to close the achievement gap among students.

Charleroi Area Elementary was one of 13 schools across the Commonwealth to earn the Blue Ribbon School recognition, the first year Pennsylvania has awarded this honor after the federal program was discontinued.

“I congratulate the students, teachers and staff at Charleroi Area Elementary for this well-deserved honor,” Cook said. “Being named a Blue Ribbon School highlights the district’s dedication to the success of every student.”

Charleroi Area Elementary earned Blue Ribbon status for its implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support across all grade levels, from kindergarten through fifth grade, to provide timely academic and behavioral interventions that meet each child’s needs. The school paired that with its ROARS values program, which stands for Respect, Ownership, Attitude, Responsibility and Safety. As a result, attendance is up, discipline problems are down and students are more engaged.

“Students are our future, so to see Charleroi Area Elementary leading the way with programs that support and inspire them give me great confidence in the next generation,” Cook said. “We need to continue to recognize the hard work of these students, teachers and staff in making these programs successful and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.”

Charleroi Area Elementary will be recognized in December at the 2025 SAS Institute in Hershey.
