Cook: Nearly $25 Million Coming to the 50th District from Marcellus Shale Impact Fees

HARRISBURG – Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) today announced municipalities in the 50th Legislative District will receive more than $11.2 million in Marcellus Shale impact fees. In addition to the municipal funding, Greene County will receive close to $5.5 million and Washington County will receive more than $7.8 million from the impact fees.

“We have an abundant amount energy under out feet,” Cook said. “We’ve advocated for unleashing the energy potential of our region, and this impact fee money demonstrates how responsible natural gas development continues to benefit our communities.”

The following impact fee disbursements in the 50th District were announced:

Greene County:
• Aleppo Township - $349,026.
• Carmichaels Borough - $28,620.
• Center Township - $1.17 million.
• Clarksville Borough - $15,426.
• Cumberland Township - $794,474.
• Dunkard Township - $341,990.
• Franklin Township - $949,087.
• Freeport Township - $36,472.
• Gilmore Township - $178,074.
• Gray Township - $76,211.
• Greene Township - $215,258.
• Greensboro Borough - $20,389.
• Jackson Township - $397,047.
• Jefferson Borough - $17,974.
• Jefferson Township - $417,948.
• Monongahela Township - $152,266.
• Morgan Township - $648,747.

Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from the drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The rest of the money goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, a portion of which is provided to counties. The remaining funds are used by the state for emergency response planning, training and other activities; water, storm water, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.
